Yoga and Women’s Health

Yoga has been studied in contexts relevant to women’s health including symptom management during life transitions such as perimenopause and menopause. Systematic reviews show that regular yoga interventions may reduce both psychological and somatic symptoms associated with menopause, improve sleep quality and have favourable impacts on blood pressure and quality of life measures. These outcomes are valuable for women’s health because they help support daily functioning, reduce discomfort and improve overall wellbeing without pharmacological interventions when appropriate.

Beyond menopause, yoga’s emphasis on body awareness and gentle strengthening can be beneficial in managing common musculoskeletal complaints, reducing stress and fostering mindful self‑care — areas that align with preventive health strategies in primary care and workplace programmes alike. Yoga can also support reproductive health and pelvic floor awareness when tailored to individual needs under trained supervision.
